12/30/2009 Job seekers flock to fair at the Biltmore Square Mall The 4th Annual Homecoming Job Fair was held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Biltmore Square Mall in Asheville. 70 local companies participated in the job fair, representing 2,100 jobs to be filled in the first quarter of 2010. 12/15/2009 ThermoFisher Scientific Announces Expansion and 104 New Positions Thermo Fisher Scientific released plans today to create 104 jobs and invest $5 million during the next three years at its plant in Asheville. Located in Buncombe County for over 25 years, Thermo Fisher Scientific currently employs approximately 540 persons at three local facilities, including a manufacturing plant, warehouse and technical customer service center. 12/11/2009 Volvo Announces Closure of Asheville Manufacturing Facility Earlier today Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) announced the consolidation of its North American industrial operations. Bev Perdue today announced that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) has conditionally approved the state's application for federal assistance to build a 100-bed State Veterans Home in Black Mountain.
